Who Was Whittlin Jim?

W. Ben Hunt (1888-1970) was born in the town of Greenfield, Wisconsin.
Ben Hunt was a leader in the outdoor movement and in the reintroduction of pioneer skills. He introduced subjects such as rustic woodworking, whittling and carving, metal working, and historic Indian crafts and lore as hobbies and handicrafts for fun and leisure-time activities. He was involved with the Boy Scouts on a local and national level.

- Years ago, when I was a Boy Scout, I would wait impatiently for the next issue of Boy's Life just so I could see the Whittlin' Jim "Slide of the Month" feature. But try as I might I could never make one of those slides. (I have the scars to prove it!) ....Flash forward 40 years and I discover a couple of links to the original Whittlin' Jim patterns. Well I carved one and got hooked and so began this journey...
